Hey guys,

For anyone who hasn't been to this island, IMVHO, it is a MUST see.

I have travelled the world, seen quite a lot, and this is the picture perfect place. Better than any beach in Mexico, Australia, Asia, Europe or anywhere else in the South Pacific.

Absolute serene paradise!

Crystal clear beaches, soft fine sand. Beautiful untouched grasslands, rock formations and trees.

A bit of background from wiki:

The Isle of Pines is an island located in the Pacific Ocean, in the archipelago of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France. The island is part of the commune (municipality) of L'Īle-des-Pins, in the South Province of New Caledonia. The Isle of Pines is often nicknamed l'īle la plus proche du paradis ("the closest island to Paradise") and is famous for snorkeling and scuba diving in and around its colorful lagoon. Many species of tropical fish and corals can be seen in the transparent water

Did you go there on a cruise MRC or was it part of some other trip?

Hey Prawn,

Yeh, went to this one on a cruise. Done 3 of the South Pacific, unfortunately, only visited it once! :( But I will go back there sometime. No doubt about that.

3 cruises, thats a bit of overkill isn't it ;)

Cruising is great value though, although after 10 days i was happy to get off the boat and have a bit more space. Personally i couldnt do it for too long

Yeh, agreed.

It gets a bit much after several days. Feel trapped and just wanna get off the boat.

Best cruise I went on, funnily enough, was the cruise to nowhere, 3 nights out on the ocean and back in. Just a blast while it lasts. 3 very drunken nights at the Casino and all the bars. ha ha. A pub crawl on a cruise ship ends up turning into that, a crawl!

aww, what a shame that the big cruise ships pull up there... it sounds like the type of place only a select few should know about. i wonder what it would be like to stay solely on the island rather then spend the day there with a huge number of other people from a cruise ship.

if anyone's done this i would be interested to know how it was, how was the accommodation, was there enough to do?

Agree Chrissy. The same questions I asked myself.

Will be able to tell you one day, as I plan to do it!

I reckon it would be so cool, I would hunt animals for food, make a little hut, carve a boat out of a tree, break coconuts over rocks, grow a beard, burn my clothes and wear a banana leaf :)

I can imagine it now...

lol, that's def something i'd like to do too... apart from the banana leaf. i don't think the other half would handle being taken away from his creature comforts tho. like internet.

so there's actually no resort or anything on this island? surely there's a native population?
