I can add another great spot - Tangalooma Wrecks Dive Site Moreton Island, just off Bribie Island, 45 minutes north of Brisbane, Queensland.
Can get there by barge from Brisbane and you can even bring your 4WD and do some camping along the way.
We live at Bribie Island and it is one of our favourite spots to visit on the weekend. Out of all our travels around Australia in the last three years - our Favour is Ningaloo Reef, WA!

Tangalooma Wrecks looks pretty amazing as well... might have to get up there myself one day but first I want to get out to Ningaloo Reef and snorkel with the whale sharks & manta rays.
p.s Raquel there are some amazing photos in the gallery on your site. :)

How about Lady Elliot Island ... some of the best diving on the GBR ... and added bonus between July and October a high likelihood of humpbacks swimming by overhead!! Not to mention loggerhead and green turtles in abundance and resident manta ray colonies as well as the usual highlights of reef diving..!

I also love the diving at Byron Bay. Nothing like seeing a shark right in front of you without a cage!

You have to stay on the Island to dive there... the island is only accessible by flights from Hervey Bay or Bundaberg .. there is a dive shop connected with the resort on the isalnd .. well worth the effort tho!

Snorkle only is my passion as due to ear prob can only go down a few meters
but does,nt stop me surface snorkling.
I snorkled first on trips out of Port Douglas then last year went across other
side of Aus to Ningaloo where snorkling off Coral Bay beach awresome and
did a snorkle with Manta Ray sooooooh! good
Its a great sport/hobby/passtime and gee took my gear when i went to Mexico/Central America so some thing you can travel the world doing
Gr8 hearing all your stories on it
