What do the many travelers on this site do for Hotel bookings.

I Australia I mainly book the Hotel in advance but for our tour of Thailand apart from a bit of local knowledge and a Hotel for their main holiday period (April 12-16 Song Kran) in Chaing Mai we usually find our hotel on arriving in each destination.

I tried and failed booking the Lotus Hotel (Pang Suan Kaew) in Chaing Mai with 2 different web sites for reasons unknown to me before getting fed up and getting a relative to book a similar hotel near by.

Any methods of booking that other travelers use????

I've found lastminute.com to be pretty good for getting a good deal on a nice hotel when I want one.

If I'm turning up somewhere late in the day or night I always book ahead.

Otherwise when travelling for a while or backpacking I just find something when I arrive.

That has it's drawbacks of course. On my last trip we overnight bussed from BA to Mendoza without booking ahead. While my wife was watching the bags while I was walking around looking or a hotel she was robbed...:(

We generally book in advance, as my partner is a travel agent so there are some perks with that :)

We find that Expedia always has great pricing and is on par with some of the best last minute rates you will find else where. We also have a Hotel search engine on our site that will compare the pricing of 30 hotel booking websites to show you the best available deal. You can find this at http://www.sightseefree.com/hotels.html.

When it comes to booking a hotel, the lowest price isn’t necessarily the best deal. A good deal is one which includes a lot of extras. The type of room and price should include amenities, like free continental breakfast, in-room coffee, shuttle service and an on-site pool and workout center, which can add up to big vacation savings. Make sure you check these out before you proceed with the booking.
