Hi :)

Ok, so it's finally happening for me.

After years of traveling all over the world, I'm finally making my to the wonderful land of the Aussies

I plan to be there in summer next year, 2012

I know it's a bit early.........but, who's keeping score, right?

I may land in Sydney, but I was thinking of heading to Brisbane right away. I hear that Brisband stays warm all year, even though it gets cold in other parts of Australia during the months of June and July ))))

I have 4 weeks of vacation, and I'm hoping to make the best of it....meaning, if I can, I'd love to skip over to New Zealand also, in only for a week ))))

Pyrocrane, Hello from Melbourne! If you are in Victoria over Summer, there is lots to do. The Great Ocean Road is lovely and on 7 Jan 2012 is the annual Pier to Pub swim at Lorne. It is the world's biggest ocean swim in terms of the number of swimmers-around 5000!

Melbourne hosts many free music and art events, including outdoor ones over Summer. These are listed on the City of Melbourne's website http://www.thatsmelbourne.com.au/Pages/Home.aspx

Hi :)

actually, I meant "summer" as in June/July. That's when I'll be visiting Australia and NZ

By that time, I know it's cold. So, I'll be spending almost all my time up North, where it's warmer.

Whoops! Far North Queensland is beautiful at that time of year with its rainforests and beaches. Great time of the year to also visit Central Australia, if you want to see something very unique!

Any tips?

I am already set on visiting Cairns, if only to go diving in the bareer reef.

Maybe also Darwin (which, I hear, has the warnest temperatures at that time of the year)

And definitely Brisbane, which has the most beautiful women (or so I'm told :D )

You live in Helsinki and you want to avoid the cold???

I'm from North Queensland and our 'winter' would be flat out being as cold as your summer. In any case you can expect the weather to be pretty much perfect - sunny and warm. Be warned though, it is for this reason that that time of the year is peak tourist season. So expect many tourists, both from southern Australia and from abroad. And GREY NOMADS! And their caravans...

At that time of year, New Zealand will be cold. As will central Australia.

Cairns will make a good base for exploring around North Queensland, if that's what you wish to do. I would recommend you visit the Whitsundays - although again, there will be A LOT of tourists.

Darwin will have pretty much the same weather, maybe a degree or two warmer than Cairns. Darwin is also not far from Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. I recommend visiting both.

YES, avoid the cold! I didn't have much say in where I live and work. Let's just say that circumstances brought me here (not the least of which is a rather highly-paying job :D )

Point being : I couldn't choose where I worked, but I sure can choose where I take my R & R. :)

Thanks for the traveling tips; I'll be sure to check them all out when I'm there

A summer christmas will be different for you. Make sure you check out the 'Queensland' thread as that is the state in which Brisbane is located

When it comes to vacations, Australia is perhaps one of the best places to visit for its scenic beauty and wonderful lifestyle. Visiting Sydney is one of top priorities of most tourists buying tickets to Australia.
