My wife and I had hired cars Australia and overseas for over twenty five years without any trouble, having always used the well known firms. Recently my wife and daughter hired a car from Red Spot Rentals in Hobart. I had never heard of them and after our experience would recommend they be avoided at all costs.
They received a blank existing damage report and were required to pay a high $495 bond. After querying several dents on the car they were told they already knew about them and not to worry.
My wife Shelley being a trusting soul believed them. After returning home to Melbourne we found a debit on our credit card for $495. A please explain revealed we were being charged for a rubber mark on the underside of a bumper which had already been pointed out.
Following letters and a dispute through our credit card provider we received a copy of a damage quotation, which added to a "service charge" added up to exactly $495 - how convenient. Avoid this firm as they are evidently slippery and dishonest.
