15 days to go.
Going to Thailand (Central North and North-East) and venturing over to Laos by river for a few days.
Will probably have plenty of time to write a trip report as I work for GM at the moment and due to the world market I might not have a GM to work for when I get back ;-) ;) :D
(ohhh past 12:00pm) 14 days to GO :D

Just watch out for the ladyboys in Bangkok and you'll be sure to have a gay 'o' time, mate. :p
Haha, seriously though; although the country itself has been largely exploited by greedy, white westerners over the years it's still (so i've heard, i've never been myself) an astounding relaxed place to travel to. I've been told viewing and climbing the mountainous landscape in the north is to die for. I don't know much about Laos but it sounds like an adventure-in-waiting to travel there by boat.
Don't forget to take some holiday snaps for us, Mikey!

I hope that you manage to avoid all the trouble there at the moment. Although it appears to be mostly in Bangkok, Thaksin has alot of support in the centre and north of the country so its possible some trouble could also break out there.
I presume that you are crossing into Laos via Chiang Khong and travelling down to Luang Prabang via the 2 day slow boat. My advice would be to 1. exchange a reasonable amount of Kip at border as it can be difficult to get local currency even from the ATMs in Luang Prabang (only half the time they were working when I was there), 2. buy a comfortable pillow for the boat trip, its long and uncomfortable, 3. most things are negotiable so don't feel you need to pay the first price offered.

I hope thailand is okay by the time you go, although the media always over hype it - I was there when the government was overthrown and the governments at home said don't go - but i've never seen a more peaceful coup!
Enjoy the trip, Lao is BEAUTIFUL!

I've got some friends in Thailand at the moment (Bangkok but heading north soon) and they say that its generally fine. The red shirts are causing some streets to be blocked so it can be a little frustrating getting around but doesn't feel dangerous.
