The Netherlands is the European part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which consists of the Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba in the Caribbean. The Netherlands is a parliamentary democratic constitutional monarchy, located in Western Europe. It is bordered by the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east.

The Netherlands is often called Holland, which is formally incorrect as North and South Holland are merely two of its twelve provinces. For more on this issue see terminology of the Netherlands. The word Dutch is used to refer to the people, the language, and anything appertaining to the Netherlands.

I am actually a Dutch citizen myself, and was wondering if our members have any experience of the Netherlands? We are thinking of possibly moving over there one day.

Do most people speak English or does it depend on the location?

I have hear Amsterdam is a must for all travellers, but is it a good place to live? Or are there other places that people would recommend living?

I have never been to Netherlands but I would like to go there one day.
I love flowers and I found out that this country is a perfect destination. Do you know which city has lots of flowers in the country?

Well, Amsterdam IS an absolute must for all visitors and a nice place to live. I have also lived in Haarlem, which is like a smaller, quieter version of Amsterdam. Virtually everyone who was educated in Holland will speak good English, but recent immigrants may not. Generally you shouldn't have any language problems though.

If you visit Holland like I have four times before, make sure you visit other towns and cities within Holland after you have stayed in Amsterdam. Like Deventer, The Hague, Rotterdam, Ede, Sneak, Haarlem & Hattem etc, etc. These are beautiful towns, cities or villages to visit and all are so different to each other. Don't forget the beautiful black Friesian horses in the north of Holland just running in the paddocks for all to see with their beautiful flowing black mains and their gorgeous prance. Just amazing farm houses in the north too like none I have ever seen before.
I hope if you are thinking about travelling to the Netherlands you can get something from this.
