Does anyone know if you can claim holidays and travel as a tax deduction if you work in the travel industry?

Aside from speaking to an acocuntant where could I get some info about it?

You can do so if you are running a business. One thing I am interested in is buying shares in companies all around the world, so my travel to their AGM's are tax deductible.

Ahh i forgot about this thread. Turns out that in Australia you cannot claim holidays as a tax deduction, even if you work in the travel industry. If you are travelling for a mix of business and pleasure you can claim the business part. IE - If you had a lunch with clients for one day, but the rest was a personal trip, you could claim that one lunch. More details can be found on the Australian Tax Office site: www.ato.gov.au (http://www.ato.gov.au)

NS - Thats actually a really clever idea, something i'll keep in mind for when i have enough money to invest overseas :)

We used to be able to claim almost anything travel related but those glory days are gone

You have to be able to justify everything these days. ATO basically thinks that if it's work related then your employer should be (a) covering the cost up front or (b) reimburse you for all your work related expenses.

Lucky it's the best industry in the world to be working in, eh? :D
