Jordan, officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is an Arab country in Southwest Asia spanning the southern part of the Syrian Desert down to the Gulf of Aqaba. It shares borders with Syria to the north, Iraq to the north-east, Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories to the west, and Saudi Arabia to the east and south. It shares control of the Dead Sea with Israel, and the coastline of the Gulf of Aqaba with Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Much of Jordan is covered by desert, particularly the Arabian Desert; however the north-western area, with the sacred Jordan River, is regarded as part of the Fertile Crescent. The capital city of Amman is in the north-west.

I have never been to Jordan but have heard a lot of good things about it.
Petra is absolutely amazing form what my old man tells me, and is probably one place for Kennas list :)

It's a MUST DO Prawn.
The route we did was from Cairo, down the Nile, over the Sinai to the Red Sea, up to Petra, back down to the coast to enter Israel, up to Jerusalem via the Dead Sea, on to Tel Aviv and then escape....
Add that on to your around the world journey. :)
Just concluding 8 weeks based in Amman, Jordan
Visited Petra - absolutely amazing, Jerash - oh so old, Amman itself - incredible to think the early pioneers chose to build this town on 7 hills (and not small ones at that), Aqaba on the Red Sea, overlooking both Israel and Egypt across the water and of course the obligatory "swim" in the Dead Sea - very therapeutic
The Jordanians are very friendly and helpful, the barbequed meats, breads, sandwiches and homus are fantastic. In all very interesting to experience the ambience of a country that is wedged amongst some of the most "politically hot spots" in the world.
