Cruising is a unique way to holiday and is something that everyone should experience at least once, discuss anything and everything to do with cruising here.

Last year (2008) we did a P&O cruise for about ten days. Left from Brisbane and went up through the South Pacific. I think the length of time we were on the boat (Pacific Dawn) for was just about right, as it gave us a chance to do all the activities without anything getting repetitive. Any longer and i would start to go a bit stir crazy i think, i'm not one of those people who could spend a month or so on a cruise liner.

Never been on a cruise other than a liveaboard dive boat and around the Galapagos a couple of times, but nothing 'cruise' like. Would really like to as an experience. I do enjoy everything being layed on, inclusive, and some quality restaurants and bars to go hang out in. We're thinking about a 'cruise' down through the fjords in Chile next year, and maybe even an Antarctic cruise but it's bloody expensive. A once in a lifetime experience I suppose, that MUST be done sometime.

My wife and I have over 40 years combined experience in the cruise industry and in our opinion it is the best vacation on the planet.

You dine, dance, dream the night away and in the morning they bring a new island or country to your door. You unpack once and take your hotel with you!

You can cruise on 7 continents and do anything from the Amazon to Antartica, from the South Pacific to the Mediterranean. When you take a look at the cost of cruising versus doing it by land the cruise will almost always come out more cost effective.

I would be happy answer any questions if you have them.

Happy travels...

Sid

Its something i'd like to experience - until now it hasnt really appealing espesically when you spend long periods of time on the boat and only a day or so in each destination however the older (not old I might add!) the more the relaxing, eating, drinking, relaxing, eating, drinking culture sounds! Now its just the cost that puts me off!

It depends on your tastes, but after our cruise we worked it out and it was extremely cheap for everything you get. From memory we paid about $1300 AUD per person for a 7 night P&O cruise, for an outside cabin (one with a porthole). The service was excellent and this price included all you could eat food every meal, entertainment and the added bonus of travelling to a couple countries.

So essentially for less than $200 per night you get everything. Just a hotel room alone in Aus can cost that.

yeah, i completely agree! when we went on our cruise we were so looked after with food and entertainment that it was more then worth it. For $1300, 7 nights, 2 country's in the south pacific... you'd be lucky to get just your flights for that!

Well its Spring again, which means its a great time for cruising here in Aus (not that it isnt always nice in the tropics). Seeing quite a few deals etc on TV trying to entice people into the earlybird sales.

Aren't cruises like the Flordia of the travelling world - old people go on them to die?

Having said that I wouldn't mind crusing around the East Atlantic Ocean off Liberia and Portugal when i'm retired. Unfortunately piracy seems to be on the rise in those areas so i'm not going to start planning my trip anytime soon. Thankfully i'm not looking to retire until another thirty five years so I have all the time in the world.

It once was but now it seems like everyone is doing it. It's one of the most (travel related) searched for terms in Google and whole chains of retail travel agents are popping up that are 100% dedicated to cruising. There are some amazing deals going around as well. I saw a Mediterranean 2-for-1 offer the other day.

I went on the Superstar Virgo out of Singapore and up to Thailand a couple of years ago. You get all your meals and entertainment included so it's not a bad way to spend the week. I think it's something everyone should try once in their lives.

I have a recommendation from my side. If you plan to travel to Asia, you should have a cruising tour in Halong Bay, Vietnam. This is a perfect place for cruising! It is very nice to stay over night on boat during the cruising trip.

Interesting fact - Around 70% of people who book a cruise will book another cruise again.

Large cruise ships such as P & O, Celebrity, Holland America etc provide great itineraries and they have just about everything on them like cinema's, casino's, bars and restaurants etc.

But there are also many sail cruises as well. Places of interest are the Greek Isles, Vietnam, The Whitsundays and my favouritte sailing the islands of Croatia.

I definitely think everyone should try cruising, even if it's just a a dinner cruise

Cruising is a great travel option - I do recommend it for everyone, but particularly for older people, or people with mobility constraints. Because you have your own room and you unpack once, you don't have the bother of moving suitcases constantly, and if you feel tired or unwell, you can easily go and rest in your room. There are always plenty of other people around, so it is a very convenient way to travel if you are not in the best physical condition.

In terms of destinations, a cruise of the Greek islands really is a must on your to-do list. And I echo the comment above about Halong Bay - if you ever go to Vietnam, don't skip Halong Bay. The scenery is breathtaking. To round out a top five, a cruise on Milford Sound New Zealand, the Norwegian Fjords, and the Pacific Islands is my advice.

Hey hi,

I am and my gf been in cruise holiday in Turkey last year..I can say just a few words about cruising..
In reality the ‘Blue Cruise’ is all of them and even more. “Blue Cruise” is living the best sun set possible. ‘Blue Cruise’ takes you to the Aegean, South Of Turkey and Amazing Greek islands coasts. Blue cruise will be a big opportunity to discover the unspoiled character and culture of this part of the world. A chance to have an unforgettable memory. Any one who participated to a blue cruise before absolutely comes back to relive the vacation .

:) We had choosed Turk Yacht company in Turkey which is good one honest.

blue cruise really good for holiday in summer time
