Ok so if you had one week in December, where would you go?

Travelling from Aus, so need to consider travel time and also weather at the destination.

Ideas?

How long would it take? And how much training would be required? Is it doable for a beginner or do you need to be an experienced mountain climber/hiker?

Anywhere on the Gold Coast or if I had the money diving amongst the barrier reef..it's pretty damn expensive now.

I would love to go to Peru and see Machu Picchu. I studied it in high school for one of my exams and ever since I've wanted to check it out. I haven't checked out how much time it would take to get there see it and get back but it would be pretty awesome to see.

It takes a day and a half just to get to Lima from Australia. Then overnight Lima fly to Cuzco the next day. The next day bus and train to Machu Picchu. Could return the same day or overnight in Aguas Calientes, then back to Cuzco, Lima the next day. Fly out. It would be posssible to do it in a week, but it would be a very expensive week. Probably better off saving up a few weeks leave and do the highlights of Peru, including MP in 3 weeks. In three weeks go: Lima, Nazca, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cuzco, (Inca Trail) Machu Picchu, Amazon Jungle, Lima.

yeah for a week would be a bit difficult, you don't want to be spending all of your time travelling!

for december my first choice would to go to Mackay to have christmas with my nanna because she makes a mean triffle.... but my second choice would be to spend a week in cradle mountain in Tasmania, staying preferably in the lemonthyme lodge...

but hold on, is this the kind of thing where we would choose what to do for a week if we had a never ending source of money?? if so then i would deffinately go to lizard Island in North QLD.... costing a couple of grand a night it's by far the epitome of luxury!!! never ending food, alcohol and activities.... nice...

I've stayed at Cradle Mountain Lodge and it was awesome!

You could wait till you have more time and do the Overland Track and finish off with a couple of nights at Cradle Mountain.

I went over from Melbs on the ferry with a car and drove around the island in a couple of weeks. Dropped the car at Cradle Mountain and caught a bus down to Lake St Claire, then walked the track back to Cradle Mountain.

I want to do it again. :)

I'd get myself over to the Solmon Islands - random suggestion I know but its not far from Bris and is a really undiscovered travel destination. Got a couple of rel's over there if you need somewhere to stay!

Sounds amazing kennas, how long was the walk??? was it difficult? The walk will take 5-7 days depending on where you stop, the side trips, and if you walk around Lake St Claire or take a boat. I think I did it in 6. Not difficult. Anyone could complete.

Totally recommend staying at Cradle Mountain Lodge. One of the nicest stays I have ever had in a hotel.

I will be back!

Wow, 1 week. Hmmm...

I'm in a European mood at the moment so I would probably hire a mini and zip around Italy. A day each in Florence, Rome and Venice before I would go on to Tuscany and hire a villa to stay in for my last few days.

in reply to the guy who said Brisbane. DONT DO IT!!

I love this place, it's great to live, but saying it'd be good for travelers is one massive lie.

A week is a difficult one. Fiji would be a sweet option
