Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is an island country located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula. It lies 137 kilometers north of the equator, south of the Malaysian state of Johor and north of Indonesia's Riau Islands. At 707.1 km2, Singapore is one of four remaining true city-states in the world. It is the smallest nation in Southeast Asia.

Singapura, one word: Archipelago.

S.P Ale (Straits Pale Ale) is ring a ding ding one of the best micro-brews from Asia.

I love Singapore, its a good combination of East meets West and is a great destination for those unsure about their first overseas venture.

Heaps to do, lots of asian culture but still safe and secure.

Off to Singapore in early January, on the way to India and the Maldives. Singapore, I really miss the old Clarke Quay and its satay market. On the other hand, the curries at the new Clarke Quay are to die for too.

Yes i can remember the old Clarke Quay.

Now it is very touristy and has become a real restaurant/nightlife strip. If your into scotch check out the Highlander bar, and if you want to try some weird, crazy, expensive food, go to Aurum.

Two things definitely worth doing in Singapore is checking out the undercover Bugis St markets. Good for a look and heaps of good food, but you wont find the fakes and the like, as you will in other parts of Asia.

Also, check out some of the Hindu temples in Little India. Just spend a couple of hours walking through that suburb :)

Hmm.. talking about Singapore, there's not much to visit.
But if you like shopping you'd love to go to Orchid road and have some fun :)
I love the city, it is mixed between western and eastern.. it's modern but still have asian touch :)

I think there is a lot to do and visit in Singapore.

The zoo is world class and you can easily spend up to 6 hours there, depending on how much of an animal lover you are. I can remember last time we were there, we were walking through the tropical enclosure and the baby lemurs had just been released in there and they were jumping around running up peoples legs and everything. Very cute and funny (considering there was a sign saying "do not touch the lemurs").

Lots of other stuff too, which i will update later...

The museum of art there is also quite good. When we were there they had thousands of old Greek artifacts that are normally displayed in the Louvre, but had been on loan to Singapore while the renovations were been completed.

THE world's biggest observation wheel has reopened after a pre-Christmas fire trapped passengers for hours and led to a one-month shutdown of the attraction.
Singapore Flyer spokesmen said it had obtained the licence allowing it to operate again.

The Merlion was designed as an emblem for the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in 1964. The designer was Mr Fraser Brunner, a member of the souvenir committee and a curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium.

The Merlion has a lion head and a fish body resting on a crest of waves. The lion head symbolises the legend of the rediscovery of Singapura, as recorded in the "Malay Annals". In ancient times, Singapore was known as Temasek, a Javanese word for sea.

I'm of to Singapore in early August. Can't wait. I love the food over there and will be pigging out something fierce.

My sister is also going to meet us over there as it will be the first time our young daughters will meet a few of our relatives that live in Singapore.

There is plenty to do over there if you do a bit of research, the night zoo is worth a look and the light show on Sentosa Island is also worth watching (although I haven't been there since they have upgraded Sentosa).

If you havnt been out to Rochester Park make sure you do. Its an upmarket restaurant strip, so not cheap, but the food there is pretty good. We only went to Min Jiang as Chrissy mentioned, and it wasnt too pricey, about $130AUD for 3 courses and drinks for the both of us.

We tend to eat at alot of the food centres away from most of the tourist strips due to our family being locals but I'll check it out. I'm pretty sure we have eaten in that area a few times though.

We go over every couple of years if we can.

Yeap I have to agree. Singapore is a great place! I have many friends there since I live in a country right above it, Malaysia. Actually, Singapore is one of the MOST developed country in South East Asia, and like prawn said a year ago, it has a mix variety of food and country.

Singapore may be a small country but like the old saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover". If you're ever going to visit Singapore, one of its hotspot would be Orchard Road where you can eat all sorts of food and shopping! Kuala Sentosa, or Sentosa Island is also a great place for tourist to visit!

Hi all, I've been living in Singapore for a long time and still enjoy discovering some of the lesser known places, such as the Katong/Joo Chiat area for fantastic Peranakan food (for those of you who don't know, Peranakans are the original locals who are of Chinese and Malay mixed heritage), the Sembawang area for a spot of fishing and the East Coast for watersports like kayaking. There's much to see and do here if you look outside of the usual touristy areas. For 1st time visitors, this website may be useful www dot sg. It's got everything you need to get started here whether you're staying long term or just on a short visit. :)

Had another great trip to Singapore. Came back a bit overweight due to the excessive eating;) but its all good.

Here's a picture of the new shopping centre ION.

Inside ION we found a upmarket chocolate store called ROYCE which is a Japanese brand I think. I'm not normally a huge chocolate fan but that chocolate is extremely good but unfortunatly it doesn't look like you can get it in Aust:mad:

Furama and parkregishotels are my recommend. Accommodation and services are quite fair with the value of your money.
It cheaper than other hotel ( not cheapest ) around Clark ( from $US125 ).
For your references, you can visit their website for more detail by search on google.

Other than the usual attractions like the Merlion and various buildings in the concrete jungle, Singapore should also be credited for the food that the island has. Other than that, check out the activities that the local singaporeans like to do, such as prawn fishing.

Also try out the famous dishes you can find in Singapore, such as the Chilli Crabs, Fried Cockles Kway Teow, Cereal Prawns, Prata etc. You can easily find those by at the open air hawker centre at Gluttons Bay beside Esplanade.

I reccomend the Night Safari.. I joined a tour from the Singapore Flyer (the majority of tours leave from there).

We got a buffet dinner and heading on the safari. While there is a gap between the cars and the animals, there are no fences and so is virtually an open zoo.

There are lots of animals and because it's night most of the animals arevery active, so try out the Night Safari.

I reccomend the Night Safari at the world renown Singapore Zoo.

You take a tram through the open set out zoo with some unusual creatures, plus if you take a tour you can get a beautiful dinner in there as well as transport to/from the zoo.

Singapore is quite unique in that there are so many things that you will find incredibly amazing, but equally as many that you may find completely uninteresting.

Public transport such as MRT is very efficient, easy to use and relatively cheap way of getting around. Food choices are endless and easy to find in and around CBD. They are generally cheap too.

Singapore is quite a safe place to go around in and like many other Asian countries, many places will open until late at night. However always exercise cautions especially if you travel alone.

Shopping must be in your itinerary, as you can find anything from the fanciest items you could imagine right to the tackiest souvenir imaginable. Just bare with the humidity of a typical tropical country and you'll have a great time. Did I mention that there is hardly any mosquitoes, which can be a real annoyance when you go to its neighbouring countries?

In contrast, you may find Singapore is too clinically clean. Some would argue this is a good thing. Fair enough. There are also many places that are purposely built to attract like-minded tourists who enjoy man made attractions, such as theme parks, grand hotels and restaurants. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, but it's probably safe to say that it's not for everyone.

It's definitely a place worth visiting that is "uniquely Singapore", but if one is mindful of time and budget constraint, I would try to put other south east Asian countries in my itineraries.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you want more information of places to visit and things to do in and around Singapore.
