As we have mentioned, we are considering moving.
What are some pointers people who have done it before have for us?
We will be moving within Australia, but if you have tips for moving overseas feel free to share them also. :)

Go for it! you can always go back - I've done it a few times and I think the best tip is to give yourself time to settle in. Take time to explore, meet people, chat at the local shops and join clubs rather than focussing on only the essential stuff- you'll feel at home much quicker.
Where are you thinking of moving to?

Currently in Adelaide and we are tossing up between Sydney or Perth (work related move)

I've moved from/to major cities more than 12 times.
It's bloody hard work.
No matter what.
Be prepared for pain.

Have a professional removalist come in to move your stuff, if you have stuff. I have had entire houses picked up and moved across the country. The investment is well worth it.
And, keep your sense of humour! :)

I should be living up on the Gold Coast this time next year studying at Bond University. I wouldn't hearing what you guys think of a few things. Should I rent out a place of my own, share a house with some fellow students or live on campus? Also, should I drive from Adelaide to Miami (perfect area, only 3 km from Uni) or fly to Coolangatta and somehow get the car over here at a later date?
I've travelled to the Gold Coast once before. It's a nice place. VERY different from Adelaide. Goodbye dry and cool. Hello wet and warm. :D

I think a lot of different factors come into play when making this decision. Have a browse online and find out what it would cost to get your car carried there by truck. Its quite expensive if i recall correctly.
If you drive yourself thats always fun and you will see some new places along the way, but need to allow time for it. Plus you can take a lot of stuff in your car with you so save on sme removalist costs.
Also depends on the condition of your car, and if you want to put that many km's on it.

Can anyone recommended a good interstate removalist company?

My older brother used this company when he moved to Melbourne a few years ago. He had no complaints and everything got to Victoria in one piece. They're originally based out of Queensland but have an office in most capitial cities including Adelaide in the CBD.
Watch out though, it's easy to break the budget with removalists. They are almost as bad as bloody mechanics.
