I figure when active members of ATF go away for an extended period of time and/or return from a trip they can use this section to update others of their whereabouts.
...
For the past week(ish) i've been volunteering with a few mates at the Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue Centre in Indonesia. It wasn't paid work but accommodation and meals were included and we had a further option to stay over the summer. The only negative aspect of the 'holiday' were the countless vaccinations I apparently needed to be jabbed with. I'm talking diphtheria, tetanus, polio, hepatitis A and B, rabies and tuberculosis. My poor bloody arm, I resembled an addicted junkie. Passport wasn't too much of a pain in the arse to obtain because I applied at the start of 2009. I remembered to bring insect repellent but the airline lost a piece of luggage (suprise, suprise) and thus my mosquito net so I was practically bitten alive but overall the week was pretty awesome.
BTW - Indonesian chicks are smokin'. ;)
Anyway, i'll post up some pictures once I find my digital camera. Good to be home.

Hi EN, good thread idea.
We are also considering travelling and volunteering while we do it. I started a thread recently on it here (http://www.aussietravellersforum.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=305), so any of your experiences would be much appreciated :)
Glad to hear you had a good time

I'm back from a trip...again!!!
I arrived back in RADelaide yesterday evening after spending a 4-day weekend in the heroin capital of Australia, Melbourne. It's actually a good time to visit the city at this time of the year with the warmer weather, people out and about longer because the sun's setting later.
Good to see Adelaide didn't blow up without me. Anyone miss me?
I'll take that foreboding silence as a yes.

Driving up tomorrow (from Adelaide) the see my oldies in Whyalla for a week then it's off to the Sunshine Coast for a fortnight in the sun with some friends and a houseboat full of grog. The furthest north i've been in QLD is the Gold Coast so it'll be awesome to see Brisvegas for the first time as well.
I'll see you fellas in 2010. Later. :)

Abrakebabra. I am back from my summer holidays with a nice healthy tan.
I had an awesome time away. Instead of spending two weeks on the Sunshine Coast (as originally planned) my mates decided to suprise me with a trip to Fiji for 7 days. Sneaky bastards.
Anyway, good to see you've left Boganville Prawnster. You were only stinkin' up the place. This town FINALLY belongs to me.

haha, sounds like you're having too much fun! would love to go through indonesia.
we did just move to sydney from adelaide THANK GOD!! especially since we missed that heat wave and it's lovely, warm and slightly humid here!
we've moved to marrickville which is great! it used to be a pretty dodgy subburb and you can still still see the dregs of it around the place, but mostly it's now a multicultural, family orientated area. some parts of marrickville rd almost feel like you've gone to asia will the smells of traditional asian food all around you.
can't wait until we're properly set up tho!

Either I swallowed too much salt water in Fiji and i've lost the plot or you've had a sex change since the last time I logged on.
Good to see you made it to Sydney anyway mate.

Haha, give me a break. I'm a proud Southerner. I like my weather hot and dry and try to generally stay out of the tropics. Humidity and giant insects aren't my cup of grog.
Oh, and sucks you've got a misses. I guess the teethless Hindley Street hooker I found last Friday night won't make a good housewarming present after all.
Oh well, more for me. :p

I'm BAAAAAAACCCCCCCK!!!!!
I took a little trip to the party town known as Canberra last week for a couple of days. Don't worry, I didn't travel there freely (it was actually against my will, damn work) but I did manage to have a day off to see the sights around the city - if you can really call it one. I wouldn't go so far to call it a hole, but it's seriously lacking a major CBD.
I'll give some more details in the proper thread.
