I'm far too lazy to write up a 1000 word essay like Prawn so my trip journal will be short & sweet and straight to the point. :o
...
I stayed on Viti Levu Island in the Western Division which I believe is the second or third largest island in Fiji. There's roughly around 50,000 people living there currently. The water is crystal clear and the sun is bloody beautiful at this time of year. We touched down in Nadi Airport and although there is a bus transportation system we hailed a taxi which took us to our bungalow-styled resort.
I managed to see most of the tourist sites although it was hard to do anything but lounge around on the beach and drink tropical drinks all day. The Hare Krishna temple near the Highlands was amazing and the people were literally the friendliest guys and gals you could ever hope to run into when on holiday. The Botanical Gardens made for an awesome backdrop while walking around during sunset. Nightlife was fairly good. I recommend the Ashiqi Nightclub for dancing and the Hunters Inn for drinking but don't leave before happy hour starts because the place really goes off then.
Oh, and make sure you visit the Mana Spa. Great place for a nap. ;)

as you said, i have heard there isn't much to do there but laze around and drink on the beach... which is great for a little while. would you find that you'd get bored if you stayed for too long or is there stuff to do if you really look for it??

Ah. Good question Prawn's misses. I think I miswrote what I was trying to get across. There WAS plenty of tacky touristy activites to experience - even more on the biggers islands, but it was personally hard for me to do anything else (other than sit on the beach and drink tropical drinks) because that itself is heaven.
That and an influx of smokin' French babes arrived at the resort and I had to show off my accent. ;)
Hopefully I haven't discouraged anyone from making a trip to Fiji themselves. It really is an incredibly fantastic place and surprisingly deep in culture.

I've heard some many mixed reports about Fiji - but i think its like anywhere get off the tourist trail and try and experience some local culture and hospitality and you will enjoy your time -

Hope you're having a great time. Do you have any other photos? If it's anything like Vanuatu, the beaches would be beautiful.
Also, you can island hop between the different South Pacific nations, e.g. you can fly direct from Fiji to Vanuatu.

Huh? Well I had a great time. I've been back for a while. There are more photos but most of them unfortunately feature my ugly mug. Click on my profile to view them but enter at your own risk. :p
Anyone who asks whether I think it's worth travelling to Fiji usually hears me say "take the plunge" in fast reply. It's an awesome location, perhaps the greatest in all of the islands which make up the South Pacific. If you're into sightseeing as opposed to hanging out by the beach or hotel then I would advise heading over to Fiji's capital, Suva. There's beautiful gardens and a historic museum.
On a majority of the smaller islands you'll often come across copra, ginger, sugar cane and cocoa plantations while walking around. There are no such thing as fences in this country.
