Hi All
In september im off to europe for 2 months. Ive booked a tour covering russia and the baltics and another tour covering italy. I want to go to prague, paris and amsterdam. Whats the best way within europe, is it by train or air?
I was going to get a busabout ticket andtravel that way.
Im also a little nervous about doing it alone
cheers!

the best for me.. by train.. where you can enjoy the scenery.. and that makes your trip more memorable..

I'd run with train as well. It's probably just as quick. Might be more expensive with all the airline discounts.

I really enjoyed the trains. They are quite fast and the ones in western europe are certainly comfortable.
Be careful catching budget airlines because they often land in small airports that are way outside of the city.

There is a train cooperation in Europe called InterRail. You can buy a train ticket that is valid in many European countries. I haven't tried it before but as far as I know, you can choose e.g. 5 out of 10, i.e. you can travel on 5 days out of 10 and spend the others in the respective country. Just check the website but it might make sense for you to get one of these tickets. There are a lot of different combinations possible.
Have fun!

Is that the universal rail pass? Is it expensive?

I prefer Train as the best way to travel.

Interrail is only available to those who live in Europe otherwise there is a similar type of ticket called the Eurail (http://www.eurail.com/home). There are different options available ranging from a single country pass to the global pass which covers 22 European countries.
Weather it's the best value for you will depend on where you intend to travel and how often you use it. It can often work out cheaper to fly with budget airlines and it's more expensive if you are over 26. It's worth noting that you often have to pay extra if you want to use certain high speed trains in different countries and rail prices vary a lot throughout Europe in general.
