Opinions on tough, lightweight Suitcase please?

I'm not going to be "backpacking" but will be doing some serious travel for 9 months or so and need a very strong but lightweight suitcase.

I was considering the Samsonite Cosmolite

Anyone have any real experience of a suitcase that really will take a serious pounding across multiple continents and locations??

most of the standard branded ones are pretty good, but the samsonite bags really are wonderful and stand up to being thrown around. Why are you taking a suitcase?
