Ecuador, officially, is a representative democratic republic in South America, bordered by Colombia on the north, by Peru on the east and south, and by the Pacific Ocean to the west. It is one of only two countries in South America (with Chile) that does not have a border with Brazil. The country also includes the Galápagos Islands in the Pacific, about 965 kilometers west of the mainland. Ecuador straddles the equator, from which it takes its name, and has an area of 256,371 square kilometers. Its capital city is Quito; its largest city is Guayaquil.

Charles Darwin was onto something when he discovered the Galápagos Islands. I would love to see a Albatrosses in full view. It must also be awesome to Scuba dive around this region. Has anyone ever been?

I've been there twice and it is awesome. A must do life experience. Getting up close to the wildlife is the best thing.
Didn't see an albatros, but there's a few Great Frigate Birds about.
The Sea Lions are my highlight.
Expensive to visit, but I'm lucky enough to be married to the travel industry here, so it was almost free. :)
