Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic, is a landlocked country in southeast Asia, bordered by Burma (Myanmar) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west. Laos traces its history to the Kingdom of Lan Xang or Land of a Million Elephants, which existed from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century.

Watched Anthony Bourdain tonight on Fox and he was in Laos. I have also read a few things about it and it still seems very untouched and unique.
Has anyone been there? And how does someone go about finding and paying for an english speaking guide to show you around for a couple weeks?
One of the last remaining Asian countries without much of a tourism industry, real off the beaten track sort of stuff.

That would be good! Laos is the next big thing with international travel but i think at this stage people are still a bit unsure about it. It would be good to know about about it like is it easy to get around, is it still really cheap etc.

I agree - Laos is stunning! like thailand years ago - friendly people who are not fed up with tourists but still a decent tourist infrastructure to get around. I knew a little bit of the language which helped (after living in Thailand) but I think a bit of body language, phrase book and their english is enough to get by. Some places getting quite touristy
