Burma, officially the Union of Myanmar, is the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia.
The country is bordered by the People's Republic of China on the northeast, Laos on the east, Thailand on the southeast, Bangladesh on the west, India on the northwest, the Bay of Bengal to the southwest with the Gulf of Martaban and Andaman Sea defining its southern periphery. One-third of Burma's total perimeter, 1,930 kilometers, forms an uninterrupted coastline.

While i haven't officially been to Burma, we did cross a part of the Burma Thai border on an elephant trek when i was younger.
I hear that Burma is one of the relatively undiscovered places in SE Asia. Has anyone been?

What parts have you visited Susie?
The regime is a bit of a shame, but it is my view that people in their own country need to rise up against regimes, no external help will work, they will do it if and when they are ready.

I'd be really interested to talk to someone who's been to this country to - I would love to visit (did go for a visa run while in Thailand) but don't want to feed a regime that is so corrupt and harming millions of people

We stopped off for a few days in a cruise around the world. It's a nice place, despite the regime. I was seriously sick when I got there so I spent most of the time in my cabin throwing up. Word of warning though, it's impossible to change the currency to USD or AUD when back in a western country.

I'd like to visit Burma but the Aussie travel warning doesn't make me feel comfortable to do so. I had actually thought it was pretty safe now? Anyone been recently
