Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. Sweden has land borders with Norway to the west and Finland to the northeast, and is connected to Denmark by the Oresund Bridge. It has been a member of the European Union since January 1, 1995. Its capital and largest city is Stockholm, with a population of 802,611 and 2 million in metropolitan area, and is by far the most populous city in Sweden and Scandinavia.

Stockholm is a pretty city, particularly in the warmer months. Ive lived here for 6 months and I love it. But the best Sweden has to offer is more north I think.
If you go during the summer or spring you could go to a place called Skuleskogan National Park. You can go hiking here and stay in cabins that the national park provides for free. Its a cheap and really enjoyable experience. You'll probably have to hire a car to get there though. Lappland is also nice, in Particular kiruna.

If you go in winter months my favourite place was Kiruna. If you go be prepared for some seriously cold weather (it was -26, and gets colder still) We Australians are not used to this climate!
You can get a train there from stockholm, with a bed or just a seat. its really worth getting a bed if you cant sleep in uncomfortable places. Camp Alta is a nice place to stay in cabins next to a lake (frozen in winter of course) They have a sauna you can use and can book dog sledding and snowmobile trips with them which are amazing. The ice hotel is supposed to be a nice place to visit. Pack warm!

Forget Japan. I've heard Sweden is the country representing the new millennium. No religion, free internet access, well educated population, nuclear and oil phase outs, increased dependance on hydropower and proposed bannings of gasoline fossil fuel-driven vehicles by 2025. All sounds good to me, when can I move!

BTW - Is it true that a majority of the population are blue-eyed blondes or has it simply been a long standing rumour? ;)

As far as i know it is true due to the fact they have a pretty harsh stance on immigration and accept very few people from 'ethnic' backgrounds

Are you suggesting that Sweden rejects immigrants based on "ethnic" background? Obviously you have never been to Sweden.

...No religion...

Are you sure about that? :)

Hello,

Have any of you recently applied for a Visa to live and work in Sweden? Do you need to be in Australia until you receive a final decision?

I am an Australian traveling overseas for the first time. I will be spending about 5 months in Sweden on a Working Holiday Visa.

I want to leave asap but I am still in the process of getting my passport, so I haven't applied for the Visa yet.

I'm worried that once I apply for the Visa (I'm assuming I'll be granted it) I will have to wait around here for it...

Puzzled, :(
