I don't want a budget flight but am too cheap to pay for more than standard economy; want 30kg luggage allowance and need enough comfort to make sure I don't have another embolism. We thought we'd go in Spring, probably March, land in Athens or Rome then make our way to England as the weather improves.
What airline is the best for this trip? Suggestions PLEASE!

Having only ever flown Qantas or BA to Europe (admittedly eight times), I can't give any suggestions out of personal experience; but I've heard lots of people raving about Emirates, and apparently Singapore are really good, too.
No idea about the 30kg luggage allowance - Qantas is definitely around the 20kg mark.

Most airlines only allow 23kg but you should ring or visit websites of a few airlines and find out the cheapest option for additional luggage.
As far as comfort and great airlines go... I would say Virgin Atlantic are my personal favouritte closely followed by Singapore Airlines. I haven't been on Emirates but as Paul said a lot of people are raving about them.

I have flown Emirates (on the A380 too) and all I can say is that it was great, even in economy. Nothing bad to say about them at all. And they allow 30kg of checked baggage to all destinations excep US, Canada and Brazil. You will have to make some comparisons via flight websites with regards to pricing, but they were the cheapest for me at the time.

Best standard priced airlines:
Ethiad, Singapore and emirates
Best budget: Asiana (best service I ever had)
Worst: air china and china eastern, it's cheap but scary!
Flying Lufthansa this year, see how it goes. I flew them before many times, was good. They work with quantas and Singapore airlines on the flight I booked and the only reason I booked it over my favorites asiana and Ethiad, was the price of 1000 dollar cheaper. I only care about safety to be honest. If you want top service though, asiana and Ethiad are the best.
Air china is cheap bur certainly doesn't appear safe to me!
