Obviously at the moment Mexico is a no-go, although im not sure what DFAt etc are listing on their sites as to travel recommendations.
I work at a University and all travel to Mexico has been suspended. All non-essential travel to Pakistan is also not allowed.

Hi
Good Morning
I know that Thailand keeps appearing on the worldwide "scanner" of countries to avoid, but having lived here for the last 4 years, through the last coup, the yellow shirts, the red shirts, the blue shirts & now the white shirts !!.
All I can say is that providing commonsense prevails, and by that I mean just avoiding large gatherings, marches, demonstrations etc, you will not face any problems.
Thailand as I have now told many questioners over the last year is STILL safer than 95% of ALL Western countries.
Unfortunately at the moment Thailand is the flavour of the month with the media, and therefore ALL Thailand news (particularly bad) is jumped upon by the media, and generally completely blown out of all proportion.
If anyone on this forum has concerns or questions about ANY aspect of Thailand, I am very happy to assist.
Kind Regards
Kevin:)

Hi Kevin,
I think the fact that there are so many coups etc means that some people would be wary travelling there. However i do agree with you that its just a matter of common sense most of the time.

The list above is still current as to countries Smart Traveller advise against visiting at all.
There is also some info for those concerned about the Sumatran earthquakes:
Australians in affected areas overseas requiring consular assistance should contact the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on +61 2 6261 3305.

There is a strong possibility of violence and civil unrest in Thailand, particularly in Bangkok, during March 2010. Anti-government protesters have been demonstrating in Thailand since 12 March, with approximately 90,000 converging on Bangkok during the weekend of 13-14 March. Demonstrations are likely to continue this week in Bangkok and possibly other parts of Thailand. Demonstrations may cause disruption, including to traffic. The Thai Government has invoked the Internal Security Act (ISA) from 11 to 23 March and has implemented additional security measures in Bangkok and surrounding areas. These measures include traffic checkpoints and searches of vehicles and/or people. Australians should avoid any prominent buildings associated with the Thai Government, such as Government House, the Parliament Building, the Supreme Court and military installations. Grenade attacks, including against banks, have occurred in the past month and further attacks are possible over the coming weeks.
