Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, 234 kilometres in length and as much as 80 kilometres in width situated in the Caribbean Sea. It is about 145 kilometres south of Cuba, and 190 kilometres west of the island of Hispaniola, on which Haiti and the Dominican Republic are situated. Its indigenous Arawakan-speaking Taíno inhabitants named the island Xaymaca, meaning the "Land of Wood and Water", or the "Land of Springs". Formerly a Spanish possession known as Santiago, it later became the British West Indies Crown colony of Jamaica. It is the third most populous anglophone country in North America, after the United States and Canada. It remains a Commonwealth realm.

Jamaica is one of my favorite places to visit "on the cheap". If you stay away from the overpriced resorts and rent a cottage or stay with some locals your vacation will be must less expensive. Since the resorts like to keep their visitors behind tall walls and barb wires, most of the resort visitors get a real feel for everything that the island offers.
Warming up to the locals will get you a front row seat to all of the hidden treasures that the island offers. Some examples are:
Picture #1 +#2 private waterfall tours
Picture #3 "Fire on the Water" (natural gases that bubble up through the water that you can light).

Thanks, btw thanks for the e-mail about the intro section, I signed up here a couple of weeks ago and forgot to bookmark the site. A once a week or even once a month e-mail is a good way to remind people to come back to this site.
